A cooler, portable ice chest, ice box, cool box, chilly bin (in New Zealand), or esky (Australia) is an insulated box used to keep food or drink cool.
Ice cubes are most commonly placed in it to help the contents inside stay cool. Ice packs are sometimes used, as they either contain the melting water inside, or have a gel sealed inside that stays cold longer than plain ice (absorbing heat as it changes phase).
Coolers are often taken on picnics, and on vacation or holiday. Where summers are hot, they may also be used just for getting cold groceries home from the store, such as keeping ice cream from melting in a hot automobile. Even without adding ice, this can be helpful, particularly if the trip home will be lengthy. Some coolers have built-in cupholders in the lid.
They are usually made with interior and exterior shells of plastic, with a hard foam in between. They come in sizes from small personal ones to large family ones with wheels. Disposable ones are made solely from polystyrene foam (such as is a disposable coffee cup) about 2 cm or one inch thick. Most reusable ones have molded-in handles; a few have shoulder straps. The cooler has developed from just a means of keeping beverages cold into a mode of transportation with the ride-on cooler. A thermal bag, cooler bag or cool bag is very similar in concept, but typically smaller and not rigid.

My first time using the cooler back in March I was disappointment because the Yeti ice melted super fast. But that was on me, I didn’t read the directions about cooling it down first. (Yes definitely a blonde moment on my part) But let me tell you we took a day trip to Schlitterbahn and let me tell you this cooler was amazing! Now can y’all please make it in pink?!

I was extremely skeptical about this cooler, and very hesitant because of the price. Very happy I took the leap of faith. I don’t know how this thing does it but it keeps ice longer than any cooler I’ve owned. The attached pic is the day after a trip on my friends boat. 26 hours after I first packed it. 85% of the ice was still there and there was less than 1” of water on the bottom. I followed the instructions and prechilled it with some ice packs for a few hours before use, then used fresh ice packs and ice. Beers stayed ice cold and some of the bottled water I had in there was actually partially frozen. I’ve never seen that before. Can’t say enough about this thing. Great product!

I bought the Hopper 18 just over a year ago. It is a great cooler and I take it everywhere with me; hunting, fishing, traveling, and day trips. This cooler drinks drinks cold, even colder with the ice pack I purchased. A few weeks ago the zipper started to have problems. The teeth near the zipper would move and get flipped sideways and upside down. This would cause the cooler to be very very difficult to open and close. I contacted Yeti about this issue and within a day they sent me a return label for an exchange. Within a week I had a new Hopper 18 delivered to my doorstep without any cost to me. The customer service was great! I have many Yeti products from coolers, to cups and apparel. I will continue to buy many more products from Yeti as they are a great company and make amazing products. Keep up the good work Yeti!

The Yeti 18 is perfect for travel as a carry on the plane. It keeps my clothes right and my stuff from getting broke. Then BAM! I get to my destination & I’ve got my cooler for the Lake, Beach, or River!! Oh and it’s an awesome ice chest as well!
