LESS TRAVELLED

Perfect for gravel riding the CGR AL has plenty of mud and tyre clearance to be used with 650B or 700c wheels. With 3 bottle cage mounts, pannier rack and mudguard lugs and a geometry suited to off-road riding the CGR AL can be used on a wide range of surfaces and is at home on smooth road as it is on a forest bridleway.

GROUPSET

A choice of 1x gearing systems from Shimano. Single chainrings with a wide range cassette have become the go-to choice for gravel riding due to the extra mud clearance and increased simplicity that is offered from not using a front derailleur.

WHEELSET

650B on this build wheels offer bigger air volume in the tyres which helps absorb the rough terrain that is usually found when gravel riding. For those looking for a 700c wheelset, the option is given in BikeBuilder to change to this wheel size.

FINISHING KIT

Finishing kit is a personal choice on a gravel bike with options given the the flared bars as well as a more standard road set-up. Flared bars offer increased control when descending on the drops, giving more confidence to the rider as well as having more space if handlebar bags are being used.

Gravel () is a loose aggregation of rock fragments. Gravel occurs naturally on Earth as a result of sedimentary and erosive geological processes; it is also produced in large quantities commercially as crushed stone.

Gravel is classified by particle size range and includes size classes from granule- to boulder-sized fragments. In the Udden-Wentworth scale gravel is categorized into granular gravel (2–4 mm or 0.079–0.157 in) and pebble gravel (4–64 mm or 0.2–2.5 in). ISO 14688 grades gravels as fine, medium, and coarse, with ranges 2–6.3 mm (0.079–0.248 in) for fine and 20–63 mm (0.79–2.48 in) for coarse. One cubic metre of gravel typically weighs about 1,800 kg (4,000 lb), or one cubic yard weighs about 3,000 lb (1,400 kg).

Gravel is an important commercial product, with a number of applications. Almost half of all gravel production is used as aggregate for concrete. Much of the rest is used for road construction, either in the road base or as the road surface (with or without asphalt or other binders.) Naturally occurring porous gravel deposits have a high hydraulic conductivity, making them important aquifers.

The buying process was very easy, and quick to personalize for the set up I wanted.
picking/building and delivery was quicker than expected and quoted, which was great, lucky change of delivery period didn’t conflict with my availability.
i wasn’t sure the freehub sounded right before riding, so sent video to online chat, was assured it should sound like that quickly.
the bike has performed as hoped for, as an off road set up. early days as not done any long rides on it yet but feels comfortable for longer days.

Went for a test ride and it was amazing. The bike rides really smooth and is a lot faster than my old hybrid bike.
It arrived securely packed and I only had to mount the pedals and the handle bar. The gears change smoothly and there was no need for me to adjust anything.
