A door is a hinged or otherwise movable barrier that allows ingress (entry) into and egress (exit) from an enclosure. The created opening in the wall is a doorway or portal. A door's essential and primary purpose is to provide security by controlling access to the doorway (portal). Conventionally, it is a panel that fits into the doorway of a building, room, or vehicle. Doors are generally made of a material suited to the door's task. They are commonly attached by hinges, but can move by other means, such as slides or counterbalancing.
The door may be able to move in various ways (at angles away from the doorway/portal, by sliding on a plane parallel to the frame, by folding in angles on a parallel plane, or by spinning along an axis at the center of the frame) to allow or prevent ingress or egress. In most cases, a door's interior matches its exterior side. But in other cases (e.g., a vehicle door) the two sides are radically different.
Many doors incorporate locking mechanisms to ensure that only some people can open them (such as with a key). Doors may have devices such as knockers or doorbells by which people outside announce their presence. Apart from providing access into and out of a space, doors may have the secondary functions of ensuring privacy by preventing unwanted attention from outsiders, of separating areas with different functions, of allowing light to pass into and out of a space, of controlling ventilation or air drafts so that interiors may be more effectively heated or cooled, of dampening noise, and of blocking the spread of fire.
Doors can have aesthetic, symbolic, ritualistic purposes. Receiving the key to a door can signify a change in status from outsider to insider. Doors and doorways frequently appear in literature and the arts with metaphorical or allegorical import as a portent of change.
A fingerprint is an impression left by the friction ridges of a human finger. The recovery of partial fingerprints from a crime scene is an important method of forensic science. Moisture and grease on a finger result in fingerprints on surfaces such as glass or metal. Deliberate impressions of entire fingerprints can be obtained by ink or other substances transferred from the peaks of friction ridges on the skin to a smooth surface such as paper. Fingerprint records normally contain impressions from the pad on the last joint of fingers and thumbs, though fingerprint cards also typically record portions of lower joint areas of the fingers.
Human fingerprints are detailed, unique, difficult to alter, and durable over the life of an individual, making them suitable as long-term markers of human identity. They may be employed by police or other authorities to identify individuals who wish to conceal their identity, or to identify people who are incapacitated or deceased and thus unable to identify themselves, as in the aftermath of a natural disaster.
Their use as evidence has been challenged by academics, judges and the media. There are no uniform standards for point-counting methods, and academics have argued that the error rate in matching fingerprints has not been adequately studied and that fingerprint evidence has no secure statistical foundation. Research has been conducted into whether experts can objectively focus on feature information in fingerprints without being misled by extraneous information, such as context.

A refrigerator, commonly fridge, is a commercial and home appliance consisting of a thermally insulated compartment and a heat pump (mechanical, electronic or chemical) that transfers heat from its inside to its external environment so that its inside is cooled to a temperature below the room temperature. Refrigeration is an essential food storage technique around the world. The low temperature reduces the reproduction rate of bacteria, so the refrigerator lowers the rate of spoilage. A refrigerator maintains a temperature a few degrees above the freezing point of water. The optimal temperature range for perishable food storage is 3 to 5 °C (37 to 41 °F). A freezer is a specialized refrigerator, or portion of a refrigerator, that maintains its contents’ temperature below the freezing point of water. The refrigerator replaced the icebox, which had been a common household appliance for almost a century and a half. The United States Food and Drug Administration recommends that the refrigerator be kept at or below 4 °C (40 °F) and that the freezer be regulated at −18 °C (0 °F).
The first cooling systems for food involved ice. Artificial refrigeration began in the mid-1750s, and developed in the early 1800s. In 1834, the first working vapor-compression refrigeration, using the same technology seen in air conditioners, system was built. The first commercial ice-making machine was invented in 1854. In 1913, refrigerators for home use were invented. In 1923 Frigidaire introduced the first self-contained unit. The introduction of Freon in the 1920s expanded the refrigerator market during the 1930s. Home freezers as separate compartments (larger than necessary just for ice cubes) were introduced in 1940. Frozen foods, previously a luxury item, became commonplace.
Freezer units are used in households as well as in industry and commerce. Commercial refrigerator and freezer units were in use for almost 40 years prior to the common home models. The freezer-over-refrigerator style had been the basic style since the 1940s, until modern, side-by-side refrigerators broke the trend. A vapor compression cycle is used in most household refrigerators, refrigerator–freezers and freezers. Newer refrigerators may include automatic defrosting, chilled water, and ice from a dispenser in the door.
Domestic refrigerators and freezers for food storage are made in a range of sizes. Among the smallest are Peltier-type refrigerators designed to chill beverages. A large domestic refrigerator stands as tall as a person and may be about one metre (3 ft 3 in) wide with a capacity of 0.6 m3 (21 cu ft). Refrigerators and freezers may be free standing, or built into a kitchen. The refrigerator allows the modern household to keep food fresh for longer than before. Freezers allow people to buy perishable food in bulk and eat it at leisure, and make bulk purchases.
Stainless may refer to:
- Cleanliness, or the quality of being clean
- Stainless steel, a corrosion-resistant metal alloy
- Stainless Games, a British video game developer
- Stainless Broadcasting Company, a TV broadcaster based in Michigan, US
- Stainless Banner, the second national flag of the Confederate States of America
Steel is an alloy of iron and carbon with improved strength and fracture resistance compared to other forms of iron. Because of its high tensile strength and low cost, steel is one of the most commonly manufactured materials in the world. Steel is used in buildings, as concrete reinforcing rods, in bridges, infrastructure, tools, ships, trains, cars, bicycles, machines, electrical appliances, furniture, and weapons.
Iron is always the main element in steel, but many other elements may be present or added. Stainless steels, which are resistant to corrosion and oxidation, typically need an additional 11% chromium.
Iron is the base metal of steel. Depending on the temperature, it can take two crystalline forms (allotropic forms): body-centred cubic and face-centred cubic. The interaction of the allotropes of iron with the alloying elements, primarily carbon, gives steel and cast iron their range of unique properties. In pure iron, the crystal structure has relatively little resistance to the iron atoms slipping past one another, and so pure iron is quite ductile, or soft and easily formed. In steel, small amounts of carbon, other elements, and inclusions within the iron act as hardening agents that prevent the movement of dislocations.
The carbon in typical steel alloys may contribute up to 2.14% of its weight. Varying the amount of carbon and many other alloying elements, as well as controlling their chemical and physical makeup in the final steel (either as solute elements, or as precipitated phases), impedes the movement of the dislocations that make pure iron ductile, and thus controls and enhances its qualities. These qualities include the hardness, quenching behaviour, need for annealing, tempering behaviour, yield strength, and tensile strength of the resulting steel. The increase in steel's strength compared to pure iron is possible only by reducing iron's ductility.
Steel was produced in bloomery furnaces for thousands of years, but its large-scale, industrial use began only after more efficient production methods were devised in the 17th century, with the introduction of the blast furnace and production of crucible steel. This was followed by the Bessemer process in England in the mid-19th century, and then by the open-hearth furnace. With the invention of the Bessemer process, a new era of mass-produced steel began. Mild steel replaced wrought iron. The German states were the major steel producers in Europe in the 19th century. American steel production was centred in Pittsburgh, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and Cleveland until the late 20th century. Currently, world steel production is centered in China, which produced 54% of the world's steel in 2023.
Further refinements in the process, such as basic oxygen steelmaking (BOS), largely replaced earlier methods by further lowering the cost of production and increasing the quality of the final product. Today more than 1.6 billion tons of steel is produced annually. Modern steel is generally identified by various grades defined by assorted standards organizations. The modern steel industry is one of the largest manufacturing industries in the world, but also one of the most energy and greenhouse gas emission intense industries, contributing 8% of global emissions. However, steel is also very reusable: it is one of the world's most-recycled materials, with a recycling rate of over 60% globally.
A whirlpool is a body of rotating water produced by opposing currents or a current running into an obstacle. Small whirlpools form when a bath or a sink is draining. More powerful ones formed in seas or oceans may be called maelstroms ( MAYL-strom, -strəm). Vortex is the proper term for a whirlpool that has a downdraft.
In narrow ocean straits with fast flowing water, whirlpools are often caused by tides. Many stories tell of ships being sucked into a maelstrom, although only smaller craft are actually in danger. Smaller whirlpools appear at river rapids and can be observed downstream of artificial structures such as weirs and dams. Large cataracts, such as Niagara Falls, produce strong whirlpools.

I wanted a streamline counter depth fridge that wouldn’t take up a lot of room. It fits seamlessly into the surrounding cabinets. I wanted an ice maker, but I wasn’t really concerned about the fridge having an ice dispenser. It’s quiet and keeps everything much colder than my previous fridge, which I like. It’s fingerprint resistant and food doesn’t get lost in the back for it to spoil. Food seems to stay fresher longer. The back doesn’t have levelers so if you adjust the front levelers to stop it from rolling, it looks like it’s leaning backwards. My contractor installed and fixed the issue by supporting the back feet on a board.

Awesome fridge! So much open space, excellent lighting, and excellent ambient cooling technologies. I personally also am a big fan of the compartmentalized bottom portion and organizational tools that are in those compartments. If you buy a lot of frozen stuff, this particular fridge may be a little cramped for you. It also does have an ice maker but is in the left bottom compartment, so while the utility is there it’s not super convenient to get to. Lastly, the appearance of the actual fridge is great. No mess, no fuss, not even a handle that sticks out. Whirlpool, great job!

This is a great refrigerator for people who can’t stand hunting for items in the freezer drawers. This refrigerator has enough room and features for my family of 3. The doors do not have handles so it is a very sleek look. The doors have a fingerprint resistant coating so it is easier to keep clean. There is an alarm that sounds when the doors are left open which is great because I have pushed the door shut several times but it didn’t close fully. The refrigerator drawers are large and can store a lot of goods. The freezer has French doors as well allowing you to see and access everything. The freezer shelves pull out so you can access items with ease. It does have an icemaker in the top of the left side freezer. It automatically makes the ice cubes and deposits them into the tray. It does sense when it needs to make more cubes so we have never run out.

We have never had a 4 door refrigerator like this one, but we love it. Easier access to things in both the refrigerated section and the freezer is also nice. The child lock is something we haven’t had either and we do like that to keep the grandkids from changing things. We also like the door handles built in the way they are. There is plenty of room in the doors for items, as you will see in my pictures, which is a plus. I love the LED lighting that comes on softly and lights the sections up very nicely. The icemaker works well and the entire refrigerator cooled quickly after we initially plugged it in. While it is listed as fingerprint resistant, that doesn’t necessarily mean they won’t show. Our granddaughter seems to be able to put plenty of fingerprints on it. It does clean up easily and nicely though, so that isn’t a show stopper. This model does not have a cold water dispenser but there is an icemaker in the freezer, which worked quickly to produce ice. Overall, it’s a nice fridge for the money.

This Whirlpool fridge is modern and sleek. I love that it does not have a curved front for large handles that look like an bow & arrow handle. As a counter depth fridge it will not stick out past the counter and fridge enclosure, however, that does make the sq ft smaller. This fridge is uniquely designed with three individual temperature controlled compartments: a double upper fridge compartment, a single freezer and a single swing compartment that and run from freezer to cold fridge temps. Buy this fridge if you: – like modern, sleek designs – don’t have a household full of people (great for singles, no kids or retired couples) – don’t mind not have a cold water dispenser in the fridge – like square ice cutes.

Pros: Reliable Whirlpool name. Sleek design. French door refrigerator has wide adjustable shelves. The two freezers can be adjusted to two different temperatures. The refrigerator shelves are adjustable, as are the door shelves The refrigerator doors can accommodate gallon milk containers. The two fruit/vegetable drawers are very roomy. The left freezer has the ice maker with space for the ice and an extra space for more ice, plus a pull out shelf and a roomy bin. The right freezer has two pull out shelves and a roomy bin. Cons: Both refrigerator doors need to be opened to fully open the right hand fruit/vegetable drawer. The ice maker is slow, but it does keep the bin filled automatically. None of the doors close automatically; they need to be closed manually. There is a sensor that will warn you with a beep if any door is left open more than 5 minutes. We traded in our 25 year old refrigerator for this sleek new model. We love the wide refrigerator shelves, the roomy door shelves, the two freezer compartments. It is easy to keep our fruits and vegetables, condiments, and frozen foods organized. The outside finish resists fingerprints and smudges. The exterior is stainless steel, so magnets can be used to post grocery lists, etc. From gallons of milk to microwave dinners, this Whirlpool 4 door fridge helps you store groceries right where you can see them. Flexible organization spaces help you find what you’re looking for and cut down on clutter. A factory-installed icemaker makes sure you always have plenty of ice on hand. Keep everyday items in sight and help prevent small containers from getting forgotten in the back with this counter depth refrigerator’s easy-reach shelves. A divider in the flexible ice bin allows you to use the entire bin for ice, or save room in the bin for an ice scoop, ice packs or other items like popsicles. Four compartments help keep fresh and frozen groceries organized and accessible. Keep large items like a 20 lb. turkey neatly in place with pull-out freezer shelves for easy access. Keep every shelf cold and help eliminate warm spots with multi-flow vents that direct fresh, chilled air throughout the refrigerator. Free up shelf space with gallon door bins that fit items like a 2 l soda bottle or gallon of milk, giving you flexibility when and where you need it. Keep frozen food at just the right temperature with multiple temperature settings, from frozen veggies and meat to keeping ice cream scoopable. Available in a stainless finish, the easy-to-clean exterior resists fingerprints and smudges. Fast Cool option: Sets your refrigerator to the coldest temperature for 2 hours with the push of a button when you need to cool freshly bought groceries. Fast Freeze option: Lowers the freezer temperature with the push of a button to freeze items so they’re ready when you need them. Vacation mode activates warmer temperature set points when you don’t expect to be using the refrigerator for several days. LED interior lighting: Keeps food looking as good as it tastes. Light is cast inside the refrigerator so food looks like it’s supposed to. The LED lighting is cool, so the light does not warm up the refrigerator or freezer.

I got this fridge because I’m completely renovating my kitchen and wanted a counter depth unit. I love the look of the front, it’s very clean looking. Having a counter depth fridge will be nice because my old one stuck out way to far from the cabinet fronts and didn’t look as nice. Another thing that caught my eye is that you have 2 separate doors on the freezer. You can open one side without opening the other so it’s going to be a little more energy efficient. When you get the fridge, it’s packaged very well. I didn’t see any dents or dings anywhere on it after removing it from the packaging. The feet are very easy to adjust to get the height right. When you open the doors you immediately notice how well laid out the shelves and drawers are. You can adjust the middle bins on the door if you like to store tall things like milk or juices. I like that the middle shelf in the main compartment is the taller one. In my old fridge the taller shelf was on top, having it in the middle makes it easier to grab larger items. When you first power on the unit you’ll notice that the sides will get quite warm as it’s cooling down initially. This is normal. Once the unit cools down it wont get so warm. I haven’t hooked up the icemaker yet so I turned it off. There’s a small switch that’s easy to get at to turn it on and off. The control panel is on the black strip in between the fridge and freezer compartments. It goes off automatically which I like because it keeps the front looking clean and sleek without LED’s being lit all the time. The interior lights are also LED so they should last a long time and not require changing. There’s also fast cool and fast freeze options which are handy when you’ve had the doors open for a bit putting in your groceries. I can’t wait until my new cabinets get installed so I can roll this into place, it’s going to look great. Definitely give this fridge a look, it’s clean looking, organized and packed with features.

We bought this fridge because almost everything else was out of stock. As fridges go, it’s good. The vegetable drawers are highly visible and helps with me not letting all the healthy greens rot. I thought I would miss no ice or water in the door but the pull ice tray is way easier than waiting for the machine to dispense it. Plus I don’t have to buy a filter. Positives: things look and stay pretty organized, 4 doors are great Negatives: limited adjustment with shelves. Our industrial size ranch and ketchup we buy only fits in the main and not the doors. It took a minute to retain us not to pull on the left door from the inside “latch” as it secures that way.

I love the 4 French Doors, and because it is counter depth, it does not stick out from the cabinets like a sore thumb. I love having the refrigerator on the top with everything open and visible and that the freezer has two separate compartments. I love that you can set a different temperature for each freezer (i.e. one for deep freeze and one for softer items). I love that it is so quiet that with the icemaker off you would not even know it was there. This refrigerator has 2 cu. ft. less than our old one, but we feel like it has more space because of its layout. It is not only attractive, but fingerprint resistant which means less cleaning. The delivery team was competent and considerate, making this overall one of the most pleasurable experiences we have had in a long time. My wife says she loves it, and so do I.

What an upgrade from our previous appliance. First of all I absolutely love the clean design of the front of this fridge. Removing the handles leaves a very clean, modern, sleek appearance. The fingerprint resistance is great on the finish. If you do get any marks, you can literally just wipe them off with a paper towel. The inside offers a lot of open space. One surprise though was that you can’t adjust any of the shelves. However with all the open space it’s not a problem. A great feature for us as we have kids, is the audible alarm is the doors aren’t fully closed. Obviously it gives you a while before sounding the alarm but this is a great feature! I wish some of the shelving in the doors was a little taller, but again not a major issue. The freezer on the bottom makes so much more sense as you get in there so much less than the fridge. The freezer offers a couple of ice tray options depending on how much you need on hand. This is also a thoughtful feature. Note that only the front is stainless steel. The sides are a nice medium gray color. It counter depth is perfect for our needs. We are so pleased with this Whirlpool product!!
