It takes a skilled designer to make a metal bed look elegant rather than institutional, but Luciano Bertoncini has met the task. The Italian maestro — who first came to prominence when the legendary Joe Colombo included one of his pieces in a catalog — designed the streamlined Min Bed (2003) with thoughtful details such as curved edges and corners that protect shins and toes. The slat platform provides constant ventilation for a mattress (crucial for memory foam), while the sleek form also maximizes space under the bed, for those who use that area for storage. (Who, me?) No wonder the Min Bed has been a best-seller since its debut. Made in Italy.

A bed is an item of furniture that is used as a place to sleep, rest, and relax.

Most modern beds consist of a soft, cushioned mattress on a bed frame. The mattress rests either on a solid base, often wood slats, or a sprung base. Many beds include a box spring inner-sprung base, which is a large mattress-sized box containing wood and springs that provide additional support and suspension for the mattress. Beds are available in many sizes, ranging from infant-sized bassinets and cribs, to small beds for a single person or adult, to large queen and king-size beds designed for two people. While most beds are single mattresses on a fixed frame, there are other varieties, such as the murphy bed, which folds into a wall, the sofa bed, which folds out of a sofa, the trundle bed, which is stored under a low, twin-sized bed and can be rolled out to create a larger sleeping area, and the bunk bed, which provides two mattresses on two tiers as well as a ladder to access the upper tier. Temporary beds include the inflatable air mattress and the folding camp cot. Some beds contain neither a padded mattress nor a bed frame, such as the hammock. Other beds are made specifically for animals.

Beds may have a headboard for resting against, and may have side rails and footboards. "Headboard only" beds may incorporate a "dust ruffle", "bed skirt", or "valance sheet" to hide the bed frame. To support the head, a pillow made of a soft, padded material is usually placed on the top of the mattress. Some form of covering blanket is often used to insulate the sleeper, often bed sheets, a quilt, or a duvet, collectively referred to as bedding. Bedding is the removable non-furniture portion of a bed, which enables these components to be washed or aired out.

A design is the concept of or proposal for an object, process, or system. The word design refers to something that is or has been intentionally created by a thinking agent, and is sometimes used to refer to the inherent nature of something – its design. The verb to design expresses the process of developing a design. In some cases, the direct construction of an object without an explicit prior plan may also be considered to be a design (such as in arts and crafts). A design is expected to have a purpose within a certain context, usually having to satisfy certain goals and constraints and to take into account aesthetic, functional, economic, environmental, or socio-political considerations. Traditional examples of designs include architectural and engineering drawings, circuit diagrams, sewing patterns, and less tangible artefacts such as business process models.

I’ve had a queen size Min bed for over 15 years, I can vouch for its durability. It’s a very easy bed to assemble, even by one person, even after multiple moves, and it remains tight and sturdy after reassembling for the n’th time. The powder coating is also pretty solid, and the bed does not show its age—except for the upholstered head boards (mine came at the time in two halves.) Not only did I find the minimalist design attractive at the time I bought it, but I still remain impressed by its clean lines and engineering. Some of the wooden slats have twisted a bit, but they have not sagged, and they remain in place under my mattress without any problem. I do have a fairly heavy mattress, that must help. Overall, this is an exceptional bed for its price, design and durability. I should know: I am a home furnishing product designer.

I’ve been meaning to write this review since we bought the min bed (at least 3 years ago). It has higher underbed clearance than most mattress-only beds. That make its easy to get in and out of bed – and easy to clean under. The bed has been absolutely noiseless (I noticed another review that indicated the bed was noisy – perhaps it was not put together tightly enough?). The other thing I really really like about this bed is that it is so absolutely sturdy that it doesn’t require extra legs – again that helps with easy underbed cleaning. And no extra made it easier to store stuff there – but we don’t do that anymore as we like the open/underbed look. I don’t understand how people manage to stub their toes on the legs… :). Our pillows did slip between the mattress and headboard. But that was an easy fix – we simply pulled our foam mattress topper up higher on the mattress before putting on the mattress cover. This filled just enough of the gap to completely/permanently solve the problem. We need a second bed now and plan to get another min bed (considering the beautiful DWR Cove Bed – as it sits even higher; but the fact that it requires extra legs underneath – which are visible – may not work in that bedroom). If we do get a 2nd min bed we’ll simply cover a narrow piece of foam and place it between the mattress and the headboard. Great bed! Read Less

This bed was easy to set up. It’s quite sturdy and solid after 5 months of use. It’s also stunning to look at with the walnut headboard.

Purchased the King size Min Bed in white, no headboard, in early 2018. For 2+ years it has contributed to making our bedroom more tranquil. When we decided to move from a traditional queen frame to a king, I was concerned about visually overpowering our modest master bedroom. The minimal, lower design works well but takes some consideration when selecting bedding to prevent it from touching the floor. In response to concerns from other reviews:I keep an eye on the legs at the foot in fear of stubbing a toe. No injuring to date. The wooden slats have stayed in place – not sure how they could come out after proper assembly. At the time of purchase, wife wanted the headboard, but I was concerned that it would take up additional floor space and the mounting looked a little flimsy. I checked with DWR and they offered to sell the headboard separately if I wanted to add it later -thanks DWR! We don’t sit up in bed much and haven’t missed a headboard.FYI, the bottom of the frame is a great location to add a couple Hue strip lights. The strip lights face down and add a nice not-too-harsh glow for waking up to.Highly recommended!

This has been my son’s bed for 10 years. It is sturdy, well made, and we love it. I wish that DWR would reintroduce the bed in the vibrant colors they once carried. My son’s bed is in the green that used to be carried and is perfect for a child’s room or for those with an affinity for space age furniture.
