An acid is a molecule or ion capable of either donating a proton (i.e. hydrogen ion, H+), known as a Brønsted–Lowry acid, or forming a covalent bond with an electron pair, known as a Lewis acid.
The first category of acids are the proton donors, or Brønsted–Lowry acids. In the special case of aqueous solutions, proton donors form the hydronium ion H3O+ and are known as Arrhenius acids. Brønsted and Lowry generalized the Arrhenius theory to include non-aqueous solvents. A Brønsted or Arrhenius acid usually contains a hydrogen atom bonded to a chemical structure that is still energetically favorable after loss of H+.
Aqueous Arrhenius acids have characteristic properties that provide a practical description of an acid. Acids form aqueous solutions with a sour taste, can turn blue litmus red, and react with bases and certain metals (like calcium) to form salts. The word acid is derived from the Latin acidus, meaning 'sour'. An aqueous solution of an acid has a pH less than 7 and is colloquially also referred to as "acid" (as in "dissolved in acid"), while the strict definition refers only to the solute. A lower pH means a higher acidity, and thus a higher concentration of positive hydrogen ions in the solution. Chemicals or substances having the property of an acid are said to be acidic.
Common aqueous acids include hydrochloric acid (a solution of hydrogen chloride that is found in gastric acid in the stomach and activates digestive enzymes), acetic acid (vinegar is a dilute aqueous solution of this liquid), sulfuric acid (used in car batteries), and citric acid (found in citrus fruits). As these examples show, acids (in the colloquial sense) can be solutions or pure substances, and can be derived from acids (in the strict sense) that are solids, liquids, or gases. Strong acids and some concentrated weak acids are corrosive, but there are exceptions such as carboranes and boric acid.
The second category of acids are Lewis acids, which form a covalent bond with an electron pair. An example is boron trifluoride (BF3), whose boron atom has a vacant orbital that can form a covalent bond by sharing a lone pair of electrons on an atom in a base, for example the nitrogen atom in ammonia (NH3). Lewis considered this as a generalization of the Brønsted definition, so that an acid is a chemical species that accepts electron pairs either directly or by releasing protons (H+) into the solution, which then accept electron pairs. Hydrogen chloride, acetic acid, and most other Brønsted–Lowry acids cannot form a covalent bond with an electron pair, however, and are therefore not Lewis acids. Conversely, many Lewis acids are not Arrhenius or Brønsted–Lowry acids. In modern terminology, an acid is implicitly a Brønsted acid and not a Lewis acid, since chemists almost always refer to a Lewis acid explicitly as such.
Bounce or The Bounce may refer to:
- Deflection (physics), the event where an object collides with and bounces against a plane surface
Glossier is a beauty brand founded by Emily Weiss in 2014. It started as an online-only company, building on the popularity of the beauty blog "Into the Gloss". Vitamins are organic molecules (or a set of closely related molecules called vitamers) that are essential to an organism in small quantities for proper metabolic function. Essential nutrients cannot be synthesized in the organism in sufficient quantities for survival, and therefore must be obtained through the diet. For example, vitamin C can be synthesized by some species but not by others; it is not considered a vitamin in the first instance but is in the second. Most vitamins are not single molecules, but groups of related molecules called vitamers. For example, there are eight vitamers of vitamin E: four tocopherols and four tocotrienols.
The term vitamin does not include the three other groups of essential nutrients: minerals, essential fatty acids, and essential amino acids.
Major health organizations list thirteen vitamins:
- Vitamin A (all-trans-retinols, all-trans-retinyl-esters, as well as all-trans-β-carotene and other provitamin A carotenoids)
- Vitamin B1 (thiamine)
- Vitamin B2 (riboflavin)
- Vitamin B3 (niacin)
- Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid)
- Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine)
- Vitamin B7 (biotin)
- Vitamin B9 (folic acid and folates)
- Vitamin B12 (cobalamins)
- Vitamin C (ascorbic acid and ascorbates)
- Vitamin D (calciferols)
- Vitamin E (tocopherols and tocotrienols)
- Vitamin K (phylloquinones, menaquinones, and menadiones)
Some sources include a fourteenth, choline.
Vitamins have diverse biochemical functions. Vitamin A acts as a regulator of cell and tissue growth and differentiation. Vitamin D provides a hormone-like function, regulating mineral metabolism for bones and other organs. The B complex vitamins function as enzyme cofactors (coenzymes) or the precursors for them. Vitamins C and E function as antioxidants. Both deficient and excess intake of a vitamin can potentially cause clinically significant illness, although excess intake of water-soluble vitamins is less likely to do so.
All the vitamins were discovered between 1913 and 1948. Historically, when intake of vitamins from diet was lacking, the results were vitamin deficiency diseases. Then, starting in 1935, commercially produced tablets of yeast-extract vitamin B complex and semi-synthetic vitamin C became available. This was followed in the 1950s by the mass production and marketing of vitamin supplements, including multivitamins, to prevent vitamin deficiencies in the general population. Governments have mandated the addition of some vitamins to staple foods such as flour or milk, referred to as food fortification, to prevent deficiencies. Recommendations for folic acid supplementation during pregnancy reduced risk of infant neural tube defects.

I have consistently combo dry and oily skin and deal with acne consistently, particularly hormone based around my period. I’ve been using this product for about 2 weeks now and my skin feels amazing – so hydrated, my face lotion absorbs into my skin better, and it’s reduced acne breakouts more than Differin gel (acne gel). I’ve actually stopped using Differin because the serum has had better effects on my skin. Make sure to cleanse/wash, then apply serum, then moisturize. I’ve been using it in the morning and at night and I’ve been really happy with the results. I seriously couldn’t recommend more. My only complaint is I wish the bottle came in a larger size and it’s a bit pricey. But honestly so worth it!

Immediate results. My dry sensitive skin loves this stuff. Does exactly what it claims to do. Infuses my skin with plumping bounce. So happy I found it!

I live in an apartment with old fashioned radiators and this winter has been SO TOUGH on my skin! Not even multiple humidifiers and religiously applying moisturizer was helping. I was getting red and splotchy with tons of dry spots, especially around where my mask would rest. I ordered this hoping anything would save my skin. In less than a week, the redness has gone down, my dry spots are gone, and my face feels so much softer and full! I had never used a serum before and I have super sensitive skin so I was hesitant to try this, but in such a short amount of time it has already become a holy grail! Definitely would recommend for anyone with sensitive and dry skin like mine.

only thing that has cleared my skin. I have a super dry skin and around my nose area it gets really red and has countless pimples and acne. i’m 14 and ever since I started using super bounce, and keep in mind I’ve only been using this serum for like three days, my skin has never looked clearer. it’s super soft and got rid of my acne. I have used many different skincare products to get rid of my dry red skin and this one does the trick! would highly recommend if you have skin like mine. i use the cerave cleanser and moisturizer and this product layers perfectly for my makeup routine :))

I was looking for a product that would take care of my dryer winter skin. I noticed I was getting a little dry in certain areas, but I didn’t want to buy a heavier moisturizer. This stuff feels good and has taken care of the dry areas on my face. I use Solution, and this after, and I have had no dry areas and my skin feels good.
