The breasts are two prominences located on the upper ventral region of the torso among humans and other primates. Both sexes develop breasts from the same embryological tissues. The relative size and development of the breasts is a major secondary sex distinction between females and males. There is also considerable variation in size between individuals. Female humans are the only mammals which permanently develop breasts at puberty; all other mammals develop their mammary tissue during the latter period of pregnancy; at puberty, estrogens, in conjunction with growth hormone, cause permanent breast growth.
In females, the breast serves as the mammary gland, which produces and secretes milk to feed infants. Subcutaneous fat covers and envelops a network of ducts that converge on the nipple, and these tissues give the breast its distinct size and globular shape. At the ends of the ducts are lobules, or clusters of alveoli, where milk is produced and stored in response to hormonal signals. During pregnancy, the breast responds to a complex interaction of hormones, including estrogens, progesterone, and prolactin, that mediate the completion of its development, namely lobuloalveolar maturation, in preparation of lactation and breastfeeding.
Along with their major function in providing nutrition for infants, several cultures ascribe social and sexual characteristics to female breasts, and may regard bare breasts in public as immodest or indecent. Breasts have been featured in ancient and modern sculpture, art, and photography. Breasts can represent fertility, femininity, or abundance. They can figure prominently in the perception of a woman's body and sexual attractiveness. Breasts, especially the nipples, can be an erogenous zone.
A pump is a device that moves fluids (liquids or gases), or sometimes slurries, by mechanical action, typically converted from electrical energy into hydraulic energy.
Mechanical pumps serve in a wide range of applications such as pumping water from wells, aquarium filtering, pond filtering and aeration, in the car industry for water-cooling and fuel injection, in the energy industry for pumping oil and natural gas or for operating cooling towers and other components of heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems. In the medical industry, pumps are used for biochemical processes in developing and manufacturing medicine, and as artificial replacements for body parts, in particular the artificial heart and penile prosthesis.
When a pump contains two or more pump mechanisms with fluid being directed to flow through them in series, it is called a multi-stage pump. Terms such as two-stage or double-stage may be used to specifically describe the number of stages. A pump that does not fit this description is simply a single-stage pump in contrast.
In biology, many different types of chemical and biomechanical pumps have evolved; biomimicry is sometimes used in developing new types of mechanical pumps.

I bought the Elvie when I went back to work in a busy hospital. It allows me to pump anywhere. The only issue I have is that the Elvie doesn’t shut off if you fill the container completely with breast milk, and it will spill on you.

I really love the freedom that comes with the pump. Over all I love it! I took it on my holiday and pumped on the plane, at the airport, during dinner, and in the car. It was a game changer. And the customer service is spectacular!! Really responsive team. However it’s not super reliable with its suction. Sometimes I get a good latch, and sometimes i don’t. So I can’t 100% rely on it. I also wish it was slightly more powerful.

This device makes this new, exciting, challenging, frustrating, fulfilling role so much more easeful. Anything that helps motherhood and breastfeeding easeful is worth every penny. I can’t wait to gift these, keep them, use them for another child in the future because BABY these are a GAME CHANGER. With proper planning, I love how they give me flexibility to stay outside longer, go to social events, and spend time with loved ones without having to cut my day short. I’m so grateful for them.

I’ve been using the Elvie pumps for about a month now and overall I’m glad I purchased them. They have allowed me to have some freedom while pumping as opposed to being tethered to a traditional pump. I probably wouldn’t recommend for exclusively pumping, but it has helped me build a freezer stash of milk in addition to breastfeeding. I like that it came with 2 sets of parts but I did have to purchase the 21mm flanges separately. The app is convenient too because you can see approximately how much milk has been collected. My 2 complaints are that the release button location is very noticeable through a shirt and looks like a nipple. My second complaint is that they leak if you bend over or move in a certain way to slosh the milk. Overall I do recommend this pump but it does have its flaws.
