A vacuum (pl.: vacuums or vacua) is space devoid of matter. The word is derived from the Latin adjective vacuus (neuter vacuum) meaning "vacant" or "void". An approximation to such vacuum is a region with a gaseous pressure much less than atmospheric pressure. Physicists often discuss ideal test results that would occur in a perfect vacuum, which they sometimes simply call "vacuum" or free space, and use the term partial vacuum to refer to an actual imperfect vacuum as one might have in a laboratory or in space. In engineering and applied physics on the other hand, vacuum refers to any space in which the pressure is considerably lower than atmospheric pressure. The Latin term in vacuo is used to describe an object that is surrounded by a vacuum.
The quality of a partial vacuum refers to how closely it approaches a perfect vacuum. Other things equal, lower gas pressure means higher-quality vacuum. For example, a typical vacuum cleaner produces enough suction to reduce air pressure by around 20%. But higher-quality vacuums are possible. Ultra-high vacuum chambers, common in chemistry, physics, and engineering, operate below one trillionth (10−12) of atmospheric pressure (100 nPa), and can reach around 100 particles/cm3. Outer space is an even higher-quality vacuum, with the equivalent of just a few hydrogen atoms per cubic meter on average in intergalactic space.
Vacuum has been a frequent topic of philosophical debate since ancient Greek times, but was not studied empirically until the 17th century. Clemens Timpler (1605) philosophized about the experimental possibility of producing a vacuum in small tubes. Evangelista Torricelli produced the first laboratory vacuum in 1643, and other experimental techniques were developed as a result of his theories of atmospheric pressure. A Torricellian vacuum is created by filling with mercury a tall glass container closed at one end, and then inverting it in a bowl to contain the mercury (see below).
Vacuum became a valuable industrial tool in the 20th century with the introduction of incandescent light bulbs and vacuum tubes, and a wide array of vacuum technologies has since become available. The development of human spaceflight has raised interest in the impact of vacuum on human health, and on life forms in general.

first, despatch and delivery was quick given that i’ve purchased during this busy pandemic time. product wise, great suction for a tiny cordless vacuum. finished my used to be 30minute vacuuming in less than 10minutes 🙂 i couldn’t believe how much dirt it collected! my generic corded vacuum can never do that. happy with my purchase! hopefully, this last for long! or at least aftersales service is great in d future.

Been using cheap large pull along vacuum cleaners for years and was surprised just how poor a job they did compared to the little V7. We only have a few small carpet areas and the battery life is sufficient for the size of our house. Word of warning, most negative reviews seem to be from people that have brought this vacuum cleaner and need to cover a large house with many carpet areas, if that applies to you, do not buy this model and instead look at the larger models more suited for that type of work. This is perfect for a small apartment or small home.

The Dyson V7 is my second Dyson. We have a large home and we needed a second one. The V7 has improved especially with emptying. Much better. Of course, like a previous customer, I would love the more expensive models but can only afford the cheaper one.

What a happy surprise this Dyson V7 has been. I’ve been convinced concerning this excellent product. I admit that I was worried about merely “paying for the name” and seriously considered competitors products that seemed better on paper in some ways. I also worried that the V7 was “just a toy” compared to the more expensive models (V11) that were three times the cost. Well I need not have worried. With Dyson, what you are paying for is superior technology (it just works differently to the competition) and superior construction and materials. They may all look great in the shop, but the Dyson products are more expensive for a reason. They are simply a lot better!
We wanted this vacuum for a carpeted area upstairs that is equivalent to a large two bedroom flat with big “L” shaped lounge / dining area.. The box advises up to 30 minutes run time but that’s just with small accessories. When using the power head on floors that drops the time to 20 minutes according to the instructions inside the box. This fact really concerned me until I used the machine. It’s so light and easy to use that I zipped around and thoroughly cleaned in just a few minutes….. and my goodness … what a top job it does. I had vacuumed the day before and the floors looked perfectly clean… but the Dyson extracted dust, fluff and pet hair that had been invisible on our six month old high quality carpets. Amazing really.
I imagine many people would benefit from a higher grade Dyson with longer run times for larger areas than we need…. but I’d stress that the job is done much faster and easier with this sort of machine than with old style corded vacuums or even ducted systems as we have downstairs. You possibly don’t need as long a “run time” as you think….(BTW: ducted systems sound good, but you are dragging a long hose round corners and damaging paint etc….) I plan to get a bigger Dyson V11 one day when our ducted system dies… and use it for the whole house downstairs and upstairs. Much faster and easier and a superior clean.

I love how it is cord free and that when we used it the first time we were so surprised about how much dust was in there. We loved it very much. Thank you Dyson for this incredible vacuum.

Have had my Dyson v7 for about 12 months but not used much as we have it a different address from our permanent residence. Washed 2 filters recently as per the operating manual and left over 24 hours to dry. It works, but not in the manner it did before. It pumps and pumps about 7 times before having a break and then does the same thing again. Any advice welcome please.71

Quality product that is light and does about it’s tasks brilliantly. So easy to use. It’s my first Dyson vac and all the good reports I’ve heard about Dyson quality are true.

So impressed by this amazing machine.
The first use left me shocked at how much hair, dirt and dust was embedded in our carpet. I had literally used our old vacuum cleaner the day before and didn’t think there’d be much left to vacuum up. I filled the whole Dyson vacuum bin in the first 5 minutes (and it’s a generous size).
Lightweight, easy to manoeuvre and incredible suction. Worth every cent and more.
Thank you.
