Daniel Defense manufactures the highest quality complete AR-15 upper receivers on the market today! Every Daniel Defense upper is painstakingly hand assembled, quality assurance tested, and test fired to ensure that the highest quality product makes it to the hands of customers.
The upper receiver is mil-spec with indexing marks and M4 feed ramps. CNC Machined of 7075-T6 aluminum, type III hard coat anodized, color is black. The barrel is chrome-moly vanadium steel, cold hammer forged in a 1:7 twist, 10.3″ government profile, chrome lined. The handguard is the Daniel Defense RIS II MK18 model. It is CNC machined of 6061-T6 aluminum, and type III hard coat anodized, Flat Dark Earth. The gas system is made up of the set screw Torx low-profile gas block CNC machined from 4140 hardened steel with mil-spec heavy phosphate coating. It also features a carbine length direct impingement gas system.
These Upper Receiver Assemblies have been installed on a lower receiver & test fired. Please expect some signs of use from this testing conducted by Daniel Defense.

I just wanted to leave my review on this upper and address some of the negative reviews……..This is a quality upper and mine did have a few tiny tiny Nicks on the hand guard and a few hand guard bolts………I’m not worried about it because one mines not a safe queen and two it’s built by human hands fasteners will show wear from being installed because to install said bolts you need a Metal tool…..As for the nicks on the hand guard not sure what caused them but a reminder the hand guard is cerakote not anodized. So it could be just a small tiny spot the cerakote didn’t take abs you honestly really have to look for it ………To the reviewer who complained about not being able to shoot steel cased ammo well that’s because this has a properly sized gas port to run 5.56 ammo and not be over gassed. This upper is a duty grade upper so it is built for duty grade ammo. To anyone who wants something to shoot cheap steel cases ammo I suggest you look at something longer then a 10.3 *do to dwell time* and larger gas ports

This is prob my favorite upper so far. Very durable and indestructible. Only con is the free shipping method is terrible, took over two weeks from it being shipped to arrive to my doorstep. But overall amazing product.

I’m building a clone but adding my own personal choice of BCG and Trigger. But maybe for the full price to give some options for flash suppressor add on options or compensator options for additional pricing but somehow discounted. But overall, very pleased with the sale price.

Very solid, high quality product. I have had Daniel Defense barrels and receivers in the passed and when I wanted a 10.3/10.5 in upper that i know was going to work and that i could trust, i knew the MK18 had a superb track record as far as 10.3’s went. I have used this for SWAT operation’s as well as general law enforcement use. Used it for many training’s as well and functioned flawlessly. There were very minor imperfections on the front of the rail and top of the receiver but its absolutely nothing i was concerned about considering its use. This was bought to be a reliable and accurate tool for work and functions as such and am very happy with it. i will not bash on the rating because of a few small blemishes. The quality is there! Highly recommended for someone who cares about good, reliable quality.

Upper shipped fast, no issues with the fit and finish. It’s nice to have the option of getting a stripped upper so you can use your preferred muzzle device, bcg and charging handle. Only downside I see is that the dust cover is plastic 🤔 and the gas block uses set screws.

Great shipping and price from brownells, this upper usually runs around 1200 with muzzle device, charging handle and bolt. Decided to get this instead and select the things most people switch out any way to begin my first sbr build. The upper does have minor imperfections, but they notify you of that at the bottom of the description in fine print. Happy it was test fired and met requirements of the DD staff.

This is the best short barreled upper assembly available. Its heavy but it is built like a tank. I have gotten probably about 500 rounds through it since I got it a few weeks ago. It probably isn’t enough to write a review yet but I assume it will be good to go for thousands more rounds. The rail won’t move therefore you can mount a Peq or dbal with confidence. Your front sight won’t move if you drop the rifle on concrete. Buy this from Brownells at this price no one can beat it.

I have Ddm4v7 16” 5.56 so I know what I’m getting into. Craftsmanship and reliability is superb and I couldn’t ask for more. Brownell personnel and customer service were top notch when I had questions before purchasing MK18 upper receiver and I didn’t see things that aren’t good about it. I highly recommend!!!
