Height is measure of vertical distance, either vertical extent (how "tall" something or someone is) or vertical position (how "high" a point is). For an example of vertical extent, "This basketball player is 7 foot 1 inches in height." For an example of vertical position, "The height of an airplane in-flight is about 10,000 meters."
When the term is used to describe vertical position (of, e.g., an airplane) from sea level, height is more often called altitude. Furthermore, if the point is attached to the Earth (e.g., a mountain peak), then altitude (height above sea level) is called elevation.
In a two-dimensional Cartesian space, height is measured along the vertical axis (y) between a specific point and another that does not have the same y-value. If both points happen to have the same y-value, then their relative height is zero. In the case of three-dimensional space, height is measured along the vertical z axis, describing a distance from (or "above") the x-y plane.
The inch (symbol: in or ″) is a unit of length in the British Imperial and the United States customary systems of measurement. It is equal to 1/36 yard or 1/12 of a foot. Derived from the Roman uncia ("twelfth"), the word inch is also sometimes used to translate similar units in other measurement systems, usually understood as deriving from the width of the human thumb.
Standards for the exact length of an inch have varied in the past, but since the adoption of the international yard during the 1950s and 1960s the inch has been based on the metric system and defined as exactly 25.4 mm.

After 20+ years with a weak GE Monogram downdraft, I set out to find a more effective replacement for my new cooktop. Downdrafts are a compromise to hoods and will probably never be as effective but my installation could not support a hood. At 18″, this is about the tallest you can find. I used the 1500CFM External bower with huge a 10″ duct. OK – this may be overkill but I wanted to be sure the cooking orders were pretty much contained in the kitchen. The manufacturer recommended only a 600 CFM blower for my cooktop BTU but I do not think that would have been adequate if you wanted some efficiency from the front burners. I also purchased the Makeup Air damper to keep this powerful blower from sucking air out of the chimney and other areas where there are air leaks. The 4 speed blower position 2 and 3 takes care of 95% of the need . But if you have 3 or 4 burners going whipping up a Thanksgiving feast, setting 4 will definitely do the job in my opinion – but the rush of air is a little noisy. The cosmetic cover lid had to be replaced during installation – the manufacturer provided excellent support and fast shipping. Also AJ Madison was johnny on the spot and helped me order the correct accessories (i.e makeup air damper ) that I could not easily get locally.

This Best Downdraft Ventilator exceeded my expectations with it’s ease of operation, installation, efficiency, and quietness. Great product that I would recommend to anyone needing this type of installation usage.

We replaced an old Best unit that had served it’s time. Love the new height of this model. The controls are simple touch activated and are easy to see with the illumination. My overall favorite feature though may be the light, love having a light for morning or evening use. Overall a very good product and we are happy with the purchase. Only thing to note is we had to really change how the down vent exhaust exited, cutting into our cabinets base to accommodate the new position of the exit vent. Had hoped since buying the same brand it would have been easier to swap out. In the end it didn’t really matter as it was professionally installed by local business in our area and they took care of everything.

When we switched out our electric stovetop for gas, I looked for a downdraft system that would ventilate out the cooking steam. The salesman recommended Best. I have been pleased with this downdraft performance. The high location of the ventilation ducts takes steam from whatever is cooking on my five burner stovetop and removes most of the odors out of the kitchen. I also like the notice provided when it is time to clean the filters. The lighting is an added bonus.
