Santa Fe Compact70 Crawl Space Dehumidifier
The Santa Fe Compact70 is perfect for crawl spaces and basements and is able to remove up to 70 pints of moisture per day.
The Santa Fe Compact70 Dehumidifier, formerly the Compact2, is a powerful yet space-saving dehumidifier that eliminates moisture in basements and crawl spaces. With a horizontal design, this compact dehumidifier is perfect for low-clearance crawl spaces and tight basement areas.
Compact Design for Tight Spaces
This Santa Fe Dehumidifier measures only 12 x 12 x 21 inches (HxWxD). Never before has such a powerful dehumidifier been available in such a small package. When available space is particularly tight, it’s actually small enough to fit in between floor joists.
Add the optional Hang Kit (sold separately) to suspend it in between floor joists and out of the way. This unit allows you to conserve your valuable crawl space and basement space while still getting the humidity control you need.
Long-Term Reliability
This American-made dehumidifier is backed with an unmatched 6-year warranty. It’s also designed with a heavy-duty steel exterior and durable parts to stand up to tough environments like garages, basements and crawl spaces.
Efficient and Trusted Design
The Compact70 gets results. In addition to covering basements up to 2,200 square feet, it’s Energy Star-rated for money-saving and efficient operation. With minium performance is 5 pints/kWh and an Energy Factor of 2.4 L/kWh, you’re getting more dehumidification for less.
Complete Crawl Space Package
Purchase the dehumidifier by itself, or choose our Crawl Space Starter Kit, a Sylvane exclusive, for everything you need to solve humidity problems in your crawl space.
The kit includes the following products along with your efficient dehumidifier:
- Hang Kit: Used to suspend the dehumidifier from above in between floor joists.
- Remote Thermometer and Humidity Sensor: Place the remote sensor in your crawl space and monitor humidity levels from any convenient location in your home.
- Replacement MERV 13 Filter Set: Filter replacement set includes 4 MERV 13 filters and 1 pre-filter. Changing the filters regularly in this harsh environment will keep the dehumidifier operating at peak performance.
Additional Features
- Simple Humidity Control: Easily adjust the knob to set your ideal humidity level from 20 to 80% and this model automatically maintains it. You also control fan operation with a single switch.
- Two-Stage Air Filtration: Together, a foam pre-filter and a pleated MERV 13 filter ensure efficient dehumidifying, protect the dehumidifier’s internal components, and capture irritating allergens.
- Auto Defrost: This unit operates successfully in temperatures down to 49 degrees F. Should frost form on the internal components in lower temperatures, an automatic defrost system shuts off operation and quickly melts frost so the unit can resume normal operation.
- Auto Restart: Santa Fe dehumidifiers automatically restart to previous settings after a power outage.
- Energy Star-Qualified: Like all Santa Fe dehumidifiers, it meets Energy Star standards for efficient and money-saving operation.
- Quiet Operation: From 6 feet away, it has a sound level of 58 to 63 decibels, which is roughly the equivalent of quiet to normal conversation.
- Fan Operation: Set the fan to run continuously or only when the compressor is running and the dehumidifier is actively removing moisture.
Sizing for the Compact70
Studies show that as much as 50% of the air in your home travels up from your basement or crawl space.
Too-damp air in your crawl space or basement may damage your home’s infrastructure, flooring, furniture, and electromechanical systems. It can also carry with it musty odors and symptom-triggering allergens such as mold spores, mildew, bacteria, and dust mites.
Below are Santa Fe’s sizing suggestions for basements and crawl spaces based on how tightly-sealed your spaces are.
The Compact70 can cover up to:
- Crawl Spaces
- Very tightly sealed: 2,600 square feet
- Moderately sealed: 2,200 square feet
- Some leaks and imperfections: 1,800 square feet
- Basements
- Very tightly sealed: 2,200 square feet
- Moderately sealed: 2,000 square feet
- Some leaks and imperfections: 1,800 square feet
Customized Installation and Operation
Like other Santa Fe dehumidifiers, this crawl space model is easily customizable for your basement or crawl space dehumidifying needs.
Out of the box, it can be operated as a standalone dehumidifier simply by plugging it into a 115-volt outlet and routing the included gravity drain hose to a nearby drain. By purchasing a few accessories, this unit can also be setup to support pumped drainage and ducted applications:
Optional Condensate Pump
As an alternative to gravity drainage, an external condensate pump is available as an accessory. Easy to setup and use, the condensate pump (sold separately) includes a 20-foot drain hose, giving you the option to run it across longer distances to drain condensate.
You can also run the drain hose upward and out through a window (provides 15 feet of vertical lift), around to a doorway, or through a drilled hole to your yard or garden. To conserve energy, the pump features a float switch that directs it to run only when needed.
Optional Ducting Kit
A ducting kit and ducting accessories are also available. You might prefer to duct your dehumidifier if standalone operation is not possible or not practical. Popular ducting options include:
- Duct multiple rooms to allow air to flow easily back and forth between them
- Duct the air from one room and direct it to discharge into another room nearby
- Run ductwork to the edges of a crawl space to force air circulation

A dehumidifier is an air conditioning device which reduces and maintains the level of humidity in the air. This is done usually for health or thermal comfort reasons or to eliminate musty odor and to prevent the growth of mildew by extracting water from the air. It can be used for household, commercial, or industrial applications. Large dehumidifiers are used in commercial buildings such as indoor ice rinks and swimming pools, as well as manufacturing plants or storage warehouses. Typical air conditioning systems combine dehumidification with cooling, by operating cooling coils below the dewpoint and draining away the water that condenses.
Dehumidifiers extract water from air that passes through the unit. There are two common types of dehumidifiers: condensate dehumidifiers and desiccant dehumidifiers, and there are also other emerging designs.
Condensate dehumidifiers use a refrigeration cycle to collect water known as condensate, which is normally considered to be greywater but may at times be reused for industrial purposes. Some manufacturers offer reverse osmosis filters to turn the condensate into potable water.
Desiccant dehumidifiers (known also as absorption dehumidifiers) bond moisture with hydrophilic materials such as silica gel. Cheap domestic units contain single-use hydrophilic substance cartridges, gel, or powder. Larger commercial units regenerate the sorbent by using hot air to remove moisture and expel humid air outside the room.
An emerging class of membrane dehumidifiers, such as the ionic membrane dehumidifier, dispose of water as a vapor rather than liquid. These newer technologies may aim to address smaller system sizes or reach superior performance.
The energy efficiency of dehumidifiers can vary widely.
Space is a three-dimensional continuum containing positions and directions. In classical physics, physical space is often conceived in three linear dimensions. Modern physicists usually consider it, with time, to be part of a boundless four-dimensional continuum known as spacetime. The concept of space is considered to be of fundamental importance to an understanding of the physical universe. However, disagreement continues between philosophers over whether it is itself an entity, a relationship between entities, or part of a conceptual framework.
In the 19th and 20th centuries mathematicians began to examine geometries that are non-Euclidean, in which space is conceived as curved, rather than flat, as in the Euclidean space. According to Albert Einstein's theory of general relativity, space around gravitational fields deviates from Euclidean space. Experimental tests of general relativity have confirmed that non-Euclidean geometries provide a better model for the shape of space.

I have only had it about a month but setup was easy and it keeps the humidity in my 1250 sq ft basement exactly where it needs to be. I hung mine using the hang kit and it went smoothly. I used the gravity drain and so far have not had any problems. Seems to be a great dehumidifier.

This is the second unit I have purchased. It worked so well in my 1500sft crawlspace I figured why not get one for my mothers 1600sft basement that has constant moisture issues. I am impressed with how the system quickly brought her humidity levels down from 82% to a constant 60% in such a short time. We have just adjusted the settings to get the levels down to at least 55%, hopefully the system can maintain this setting with no issues. Only time will tell.

I have a very damp basement and I have been through many dehumidifiers that have stopped working within the first 2 years and weren’t that great when they were working. I have had this for about a month and so far so good. I am happy that I finally found one that works and I hope will last a long time.

This is absolutely the best dehumidifier I have ever bought. Well worth the price.
