A boot is a type of footwear. Most boots mainly cover the foot and the ankle, while some also cover some part of the lower calf. Some boots extend up the leg, sometimes as far as the knee or even the hip. Most boots have a heel that is clearly distinguishable from the rest of the sole, even if the two are made of one piece. Traditionally made of leather or rubber, modern boots are made from a variety of materials.
Boots are worn both for their functionality and for reasons of style and fashion. Functional concerns include: protection of the foot and leg from water, mud, pestilence (infectious disease, insect bites and stings, snake bites), extreme temperatures, sharp or blunt hazards (e.g. work boots may provide steel toes), physical abrasion, corrosive agents, or damaging radiation; ankle support and traction for strenuous activities such as hiking; and durability in harsh conditions (e.g. the underside of combat boots may be reinforced with hobnails).
In some cases, the wearing of boots may be required by laws or regulations, such as the regulations in some jurisdictions requiring workers on construction sites to wear steel-toed safety boots. Some uniforms include boots as the regulated footwear. Boots are recommended as well for motorcycle riders. High-top athletic shoes are generally not considered boots, even though they do cover the ankle, primarily due to the absence of a distinct heel.
Winter is the coldest and darkest season of the year in polar and temperate climates. It occurs after autumn and before spring. The tilt of Earth's axis causes seasons; winter occurs when a hemisphere is oriented away from the Sun. Different cultures define different dates as the start of winter, and some use a definition based on weather.
When it is winter in the Northern Hemisphere, it is summer in the Southern Hemisphere, and vice versa. Winter typically brings precipitation that, depending on a region's climate, is mainly rain or snow. The moment of winter solstice is when the Sun's elevation with respect to the North or South Pole is at its most negative value; that is, the Sun is at its farthest below the horizon as measured from the pole. The day on which this occurs has the shortest day and the longest night, with day length increasing and night length decreasing as the season progresses after the solstice.
The earliest sunset and latest sunrise dates outside the polar regions differ from the date of the winter solstice and depend on latitude. They differ due to the variation in the solar day throughout the year caused by the Earth's elliptical orbit (see: earliest and latest sunrise and sunset).

I normally wear an 8 but I ordered up a half size because of another reviewer’s comment about wearing with thick socks – which is logical for a waterproof bootie. Also I have purchased Blondo before and feel they run a bit small. Really gorgeous & well made. The Olive Suede is just what I wanted.

I am a true size 8.5 but sometimes a 9 in boots. I got these in a 8.5 and they are snug when wearing my thin no show socks. I am going to see if I can exchange for a 9 when they are back in stock. They run narrow to normal width which works great for my feet but if you have wide feet I would easily size up a half size or possibly a whole size. Hope this helps someone when ordering only.

Yes, these boots look like Sorel’s boots. But so what?! They are on the anniversary sale and are comfy as all get out. They zip so I can put them on quick to take my dog for a walk. They have the awesome traction that is needed in ice and snow. They are waterproof and warm. They are funky and cute. I usually wear a 7-7.5 and the 7.5 work perfect for me. They seem to be on the narrower side but that’s a good thing since I have skinny feet and heels. Fabo Blondo!
